Sending love! I have decided to continue studying 1 Peter 2 — I hope you’ll enjoy it with me.
you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus ChristI Peter 2:5 NKJV
This text was so good to me. It’s packed with affirmation. The first question I had when I read it was, why did Peter refer to us as living stones? It must be because a stone has no will of its own. The person who has it can use it for any purpose. However, he didn’t just call stones but living stones. Highlighting the fact that there’s life in us. Which begs the question, why do we have life?
The scripture says that we are being built up a spiritual house. That’s so good! In my country of birth we have a place called The Great Zimbabwe. It was built using stones. When I was reading this scripture, the image of The Great Zimbabwe came to mind. No one really stays there but, the place brings glory to the nation. People come from all over the world just to see it.
Like The Great Zimbabwe, God is building a spiritual house using each and everyone of us as stones. Nevertheless, the glory of His house is far much better than that of this historical place in my country. God’s house is built by living stones. My understanding of this is that it will not lose its vitality for as long God lives because He is the one who sustains the life in the stones.
Unlike The Great Zimbabwe, we do not have to be a stationary building. Wherever you are on the planet — we’re together in the spirit through Christ. One body.
Not only are we a spiritual house, but a holy priesthood. Therefore we’re chosen to minister to God. Peter says that we are all (living stones, spiritual house and a holy priesthood) to offer offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ! How amazing is that.
If you’re struggling with your identity, understanding purpose or finding your place in life — be encouraged. God chose you to be a conduit of His glory on earth. Just by breathing you demonstrate His majesty. Make time to ponder on the affirmation that God is intentional about your existence.
You’re essential to what He’s doing on the earth. An important living stone, a needed part of His spiritual house and a holy priesthood!
