Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.I Peter 2:1-3 NKJV
The word of God speaks to our present circumstances — even though it was written way back! I’m sure the people who lived in bible times always thought to themselves, “Jesus is coming soon” too. I love that the Word is consistent. Here, Peter was telling us to lay aside all flesh gratifying things. To lay aside is to practice self-control. One can easily consume anything before them, but having the discipline to lay it aside is commendable.
Like I said, the word is consistent. God never asks us to do something for no reason. When Peter instructs that we lay aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking — he goes on to explain why we need to do so. God never leads us blindly. He is the Father of light, He loves clarity. If you ever feel like you are being kept in the dark by Him, read more of the Word. You’ll find that He hides nothing, but longs to share His heart with you. Oh I digress…
I was saying that the consistency of the word is in the balance it has for everything it says. When you’re asked to give, God provides the gift. In times of trial, He grants the victory. Our text highlights that we need to drop ways of carnality for the sake of the word! No room in our hearts will be left empty when we give ourselves to Him.
Clearly malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and evil speaking does not grow anyone. The good news is that, the word of God gives life! It grows you. How? Supernaturally.
Thankfully, the supernatural growth translates into a transformed life on earth. You will lay aside the things that harm others and have a healthy lifestyle as a result of investing in the Word.
Let’s do this fam! Let us invest our time, resources and anything we may call our own — so that we may lay hold of what God has made available for us.
What do you have to lay aside?
